What is Access-Based Enumeration (ABE)?

Access-based enumeration (ABE) is a feature of Windows Server operating systems that allows users to see only the files and folders that they have permission to access on a shared folder. With ABE enabled, users who do not have permissions to view certain files or folders will not see those files or folders listed when browsing the shared folder.

This feature can help improve security by preventing unauthorized access to sensitive data, as well as improving the user experience by reducing clutter and confusion when browsing shared folders.

ABE can be enabled on a per-share basis using the Share and Storage Management console or the Server Manager console in Windows Server. It can also be managed using PowerShell or Group Policy.
